How might a book cover communicate the surrealism and duality of 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami?
This project is a redesign of the book 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. Murakami is a Japanese surrealist writer whose works often revolve around duality. The book cover reflects the notion of duality in the use of negative imagery and mirroring. The vertical type on the spine emulates the way Japanese is written. The project showcases my ability to communicate the content through eye-catching imagery and meaning. The beauty of images is the immediacy of communication through emotion and association. The imagery was created by a combination of photography, photocopied type specimens, and a scanner.
