Clarion Alley, the myth, the legend, the book

Clarion Alley is located in the Mission District of San Francisco, California and has been around since the early 90s. Artists involved in the project are a voice for the voiceless through the medium of mural painting. The book is a portrait of the block over a three-month period, and serves as a historical document of a specific time and place. The book contains a map of the murals, artist profiles, analysis of the artwork, and a journal entries from the author. The book is meant to reflect the spirit of the block and one person’s perspective of it. One of the most interesting parts of visiting and observing the block was seeing how the art evolved over a short period of time. The more I visited the block, the more I noticed the smaller pleasantries one might overlook upon the first visit. The companion website is an interactive experience of the block using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Clarion, the website

Interactive website explores the difference between digital and print. I used HTML, CSS, and Javascript to code the website myself. The highlight of the website is an interactive map that allows the user hover over each mural title to reveal a photo of the mural that existed during that time.
